Lover, you have broken me.

The words you spoke pull like a rope around a throat that only told you to be free.

Maybe the home I built for you in the hollow of my bones felt like a cage.
Maybe my bloody, beating heart was so loud it always kept you awake-
so you broke through the bars of my rib cage.

But the home I built, I built out of my own.
and now these lungs that pump this heart that's always keeping you awake don't have a rib cage to keep them safe.

But if these lungs don't pump, and this heart doesn't beat, maybe you can sleep.
And maybe you'll be free, like this choked throat and broken home always wanted you to be.
